The ability to introduce DNA into mammalian cells provides a powerful means to study the function and control of mammalian genes. Common techniques for gene (DNA) transfer into eukaryotic cells include calcium phosphate. DEAE-Dextran, electroporation and more recently, liposome-mediated transfection. When reagents for liposome-mediated transfection were tested with RAW264.7 cells that can differentiate into osteoclast-like cells upon RANKL treatment. Superfect was found to reduce the differentiation whereas TfxTM had no effects. Therefore, TfxTM may be a more suitable reagent fot introducing DNA into cells in osteoclastogenesis studies.
